What
does HMSO's Regulation team do?
The Regulation team
is responsible for taking forward HMSO’s role as laid out in
the Cross
Cutting Review of the Knowledge Economy. This involves two distinct
areas of responsibility.
HMSO
Information Fair Trader Scheme
The team acts as the regulator of those bodies that have a delegation
from the Controller of HMSO to directly license the Crown copyright
information (known as Delegated
Departments). The system through which HMSO regulates Delegated
Departments, and promotes standards within non-Crown bodies, is called
the Information Fair Trader Scheme. It aims
to ensure that Delegated Departments and non-Crown public sector organisations
trade in an open, transparent and fair manner and that government
policy on the re-use of Crown copyright is implemented.
Advisory
Panel on Crown Copyright
The team also acts as the Secretariat and provides research and administrative
support for the Advisory Panel on Crown
Copyright, a forum of experts on the supply and re-use of public
sector information.
This body was set up by Ministers to recommend ways of increasing
the degree to which government information is re-used by the wider-public
and the private sectors to maximise the value of government information
and stimulate the knowledge economy. In addition the Advisory Panel
can comment on the success of the Information Fair Trader Scheme.
