Her Majesty, in exercise of the powers conferred on Her by section 2(3)(b) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995[1] and of all other powers enabling Her in that behalf, is pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to order, and it is hereby ordered, as follows: - 1. This Order may be cited as the Merchant Shipping (Falkland Islands Colours) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 25th January 1999. 2. - (1) The adoption for the purpose of section 2(3)(b) of the Merchant Shipping Act 1995 as proper colours for ships registered in the Falkland Islands of the red ensign defaced with the arms of the Falkland Islands as specified in paragraph (2) below is hereby authorised. (2) The positioning and proportions of the defacement shall be in accordance with the illustration in the Schedule hereto. A. K. Galloway Clerk of the Privy Council
The Union Flag occupies the upper left quartile of the flag. The coat of arms is centred within the right hand half of the flag. (This note is not part of the Order) This Order authorises ships registered in the Falkland Islands to fly as proper colours a flag consisting of the red ensign defaced with the arms of the Falkland Islands.
