PETROLEUM

The Petroleum Act 1998 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1999

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 52(4) of the Petroleum Act 1998[1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:-

     1. This Order may be cited as the Petroleum Act 1998 (Commencement No. 1) Order 1999.

Commencement of Petroleum Act 1998
    
2.  - (1) The Petroleum Act 1998 (hereinafter referred to as "the Act") shall come into force in accordance with section 52(4) thereof on 15th February 1999, and, accordingly, all the provisions of the Act other than the excepted provisions mentioned in the following paragraph shall come into force on that day.

    (2) The excepted provisions referred to in the preceding paragraph are-

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order provides that the Petroleum Act 1998 shall come into force in accordance with section 52(4) thereof on 15th February 1999. Subsection (4) of section 52 is subject to subsections (1) and (2) of that section, which apply in relation to the coming into force of the "excepted provisions" mentioned in article 2(2). The Order accordingly brings into force on that date all the provisions of the Act other than those excepted provisions.

By virtue of section 48(2) of the Act, any reference therein to the commencement thereof is a reference to its commencement in accordance with this Order.
